P.A.W.S. Assistance with spay/neutering for personal pets in Barron County. Humane Society of Barron County University of Minnesota Feline Behavior Program (can be done via computer!)
I have a cat in need what do I do? 1. Ask your neighbors! Yep, many cats really do have a home! (drop a hint about spay & neutering!) 2. Contact your local humane society. Do they have a list of lost cats? Can they take the cat? Ask them for resources. Some shelters and rescue groups will take a cat with a fee. Ask if there is awaiting list. 3. Make a poster for the store, this is still effective. 4. POST POST POST! The 489 friends you have will see the pictures of the cat you found! That's a lot of eyes! Share on social media of every kind. Rescues, shelters, and everyone in between are using it! 5. Check Petfinder for a list of local rescue/shelters. Email or call them to see if they can help. Don't just ask if they can it, can they offer any other support? Curiosity posting, waiting list? Fee to take it now? 6. Call your local vet clinics. You would be surprised how many clinics have rescued and rehomed animals! They are saviors too! 7. Facebook has support groups- check them out! Ask if anyone knows the cat, can help with rehoming, etc. Some in our area are: Lost Cats of WI, Advocate for Animals, Wisconsin Cat Enthusiast Club, etc 8. Check out Lost Cats of WI on Facebook. Check lost cats, post the cat you have in found. SHARE on your site and encourage your friends to! 9. While you wait: a. look over the cat to see if it has fleas, parasites, or other illnesses. You do not want to infect your home or pets but this just means it's a feline (or canine) in need! b. you can put it in your bathroom, garage, somewhere secure. We have used dog crates too. c. be creative. You can use a box lined with a lot news paper and shedded newspaper inside of it for a cheap quick litter box. For food you can offer it fish, tuna, or chicken depending on its age. Don't forget water too. A trip to the store may be needed, grab a can or two of soft food if the cat/kitten will not be with you long. d. did you find a kitten, if it fits in the palm of your hand it most likely needs to be bottle fed. Do an internet search and head to the store quickly for milk replacer and a bottle! 10. Don't give up! What you do can and will make a difference! My cat got out, what do I do?... I found a pregnant cat... I have free-roaming/feral cats how do I pay for their spay/neuter? How do I help prevent parasites and fleas on my free-roaming/feral cats? How do I let me neighbors know I am caring for cats? I found an orphan kitten...
